About Crossroads Burmese

My name is Johanna Lähdekorpi. Crossroads Burmese have been our way of life since 2016 when our first litter was born. Our Burmese are our beloved family members, whose well-being and health are the most important things to us. I fell in love with the breed in the 80’s through a friend who had the most beautiful sable Burmese male.

Our Goal

Our goal is to breed healthy, good-natured Burmese that fulfill the breed standard. Our Burmese live with us “under foot”, move freely inside our house and on the glazed balcony and interact with our whole family. A Burmese cat will be there with you 24/7 and demands your attention and love at all times. They are very devoted to their human parents.

Kittens

We have 1-2 litters per year in the cattery. Kittens are at the age of 14-16 weeks, vaccinated twice and wormed several times, checked by a veterinarian, microchipped in their necks and registered. Homes are chosen according to the personality and features of the kitty. We do not take preliminary reservations during pregnancy. We do not take deposits or keep a waiting list at the moment. The most important thing for or us is that the new home is committed to their little family member. The price of a kitten is on average 1,300 – 1,600 euros.

Our Burmese have veterinary reviews annually and are boosted and wormed regularly. All breeding Burmese are genetically tested for GM2 (gangliosidosis), HK (hypokalemia) and BHD (Burmese Head Defect) and are FeLV/FIV negative. In addition we test our breeding Burmese for genetic diversity (heterozygosity), color trait, and blood group. Our cats have breeding insurance, and we recommend pet insurance to the new owner.

All Crossroads kittens are registered at the Finnish Cat Association (Suomen Kissaliitto). They move to their new homes with an official pedigree. The registered cat’s information can be found on the Omakissa web portal, where the buyer creates his/her own account. The cat’s information can be managed in the portal with codes, e.g. ownership is changed to a new home through the portal. We add the new owner as a gift member to Burmakissan ystävät ry. (BKY) for the first year, unless there is a previous membership. Through BKY, you get the magazine Burmaposti delivered 3 times a year. A nice way to become a part of the Finnish Burmese Cat lovers’ community. All kittens get a small Welcome home -package with him/her containing familiar foods to him/her. A sales contract is drawn up, where we both agree on the terms of sale.

Staying in touch

We are happy to help and support if there is interest in exhibition activities. We will go to the exhibition the first time and in the future always if the schedules match. Not all of our own cats are comfortable at shows, so it would be funny to expect that from the new owner. The most important thing is that the kitten gets a loving home where it is safe to live. Our kittens must not be left outside the house unsupervised. We only sell them as INDOOR CATS. We accept supervised outdoor activities, e.g. in a shelter, in a harness or on a cat/balcony that is netted. Your kitten will move home with personalized care and feeding instructions. We guide and help if the new home is interested in breeding. A foster cat is a safe way to get the support of an experienced breeder. Both male and female Burmese can be sold with an agreed breeding plan.

I enjoy co-working with other Burmese breeders also internationally, and I’m willing to share my lines. If purchasing a kitten for breeding, breeders are awaited to share their lines with us in turn. Breeding is about co-operation and supporting each other, not a one-way street.
